Planning and Preparation

Surface Preparation

• Clean and level the subfloor
• Install backer board if necessary
• Apply waterproofing membrane in wet areas

Layout and Dry Fitting

• Snap chalk lines to mark the center and quadrants of the room
• Perform a dry layout to ensure proper tile placement and minimize cuts

Adhesive Application

• Mix thinset mortar to the proper consistency
• Apply mortar using a notched trowel appropriate for the tile size

Tile Setting

• Begin laying tiles from the room’s center, following chalk lines
• Use spacers to ensure even grout lines
• Cut tiles as needed using a wet saw or tile cutter

Leveling and Adjusting

• Use a level and straight edge to ensure tiles are even
• Make adjustments before mortar sets

Grouting

• Allow mortar to cure for 24-48 hours
• Mix and apply grout, filling all joints completely
• Clean excess grout from tile surfaces

Finishing Touches

• Seal grout lines (if required)
• Install trim pieces and thresholds
• Clean and polish tile surfaces
